“You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win.” (1 Cor. 9:24, MSG). These words from the apostle Paul encourage us to demonstrate the same passionate commitment to following God that an elite athlete would devote to winning a race. Olympic gold medalists don’t win medals by accident; the reward comes after a lifetime of intense dedication toward that goal. In the same way, we cannot take a casual approach to following God; we should pursue God’s plan for our lives with passion and purpose. Paul continues, “I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I’m staying fit and in top condition” (v. 25-26).
So give it everything you’ve got today! In the race of life, stay focused on the finish line … that vision God has placed in the eyes of your heart. Even if you feel like quitting, don’t stop! Keep putting one foot in front of the other and run strong for God. “Press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14).
