With the celebration of Valentine’s Day over the weekend, we’ve heard many references to love lately. But there is no true love like the love of God; in fact, the Bible tells us, “God is love” (1 John 4:8). His love is unconditional, meaning that He loves us even when we don’t deserve it! “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1).
We really can’t fathom how much or even why God loves us, but He loves us so much that He pursues a close relationship with us. In John 4:23, Jesus explains, “The hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.” Whether you realize it or not, God is seeking you!
Still, we should understand that we must respond to His love. Jesus explains in Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” He knocks on our heart’s door, but we must answer. This is why the Bible is clear to say that we should seek the Lord. God said, “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:13).
God sought after us so deeply that He sent His son Jesus to die on a cross and pay the ultimate sacrifice for our sins and the sins of people everywhere. The Bible tells us, “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16, NLT). If you’ve never accepted a relationship with Jesus, you can start today by praying, “Lord, I receive you as my Savior.” If you already have a relationship with Jesus, you can respond to His love again by renewing your commitment to Him.
Today, take time to meditate on the fact that God loves YOU! He’s the one who thought of you in the beginning. Before the foundation of the world, He adopted you as His very child “according to the good pleasure of His will” (Eph. 1:5). God delighted in choosing you! He made you for Himself. More than anything, God desires to have a close relationship with you. No matter who you are or what you’ve done, know that God loves you with a love like no other. Respond to His love today!
