Every generation encounters unique circumstances, challenges, and opportunities.  And the members of every generation need leaders to point them in the right direction and guide them along the right path.  You have been called by God to lead this generation.

You are part of God’s plan, which He directs with an amazing sense of purpose.  For instance, the timing of the birth of Jesus was at an appointed time.  The Bible tells us, “When the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman” (Galatians 4:4, NIV).  And the timing of your birth was at an appointed time as well.  It’s no accident that you’re alive today!

You see, nothing God does is haphazard; He doesn’t just throw plans together.  Everything He does has deep meaning and purpose.  This is your time to carry out the work of God!

During the ministry of the apostle Paul, he taught, “From one man, [God] made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.  God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us” (Acts 17:26-27).

It’s exciting to think that this is our set time in history to reach out to God and fulfill His will on the earth.  We can think about all the heroes of faith who came before us – Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Moses, Joshua, David, Mary, Paul, John, and so on – but they all had their day.  Now, it’s our turn!  Today is our day!

I want to encourage you to let this truth shape your attitude toward life.  For one, let God’s purpose instill a sense of value in you.  We are important enough to God that He carefully planned our lives in advance.  The psalmist David proclaimed, “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 139:16).  We know what it’s like to carefully plan an important event.  In that way, our lives were carefully planned by God before we even came into existence.

Secondly, let God’s purpose for you instill a sense of responsibility.  It’s awesome to think that God has entrusted this generation to us.  We are the ones responsible for carrying out His work!  So, we can’t take a halfhearted approach to following God.  We can’t sit back and wait for somebody else to accomplish His plans.  We need to take our place in history and fully live out His purpose for us.  “I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received” (Ephesians 4:1).

Finally, let God’s purpose for you instill a sense of confidence.  “Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves” (Psalm 100:3, NKJV).  Remember that we didn’t determine when or where we would be born, but God did.  And He did so for a reason!  So, when we move to carry out the work of God, we are not on our own.  He helps us to accomplish the plans He’s called us to fulfill.  “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (Philippians 2:13, NIV).

So, always remember that the challenges of today are not too big for you to overcome. God has placed you here in this time for a reason.
