What does it really mean to be prosperous? If it’s all about money and fame, why do we see people who have riches, wealth, and prestige but aren’t truly happy and satisfied? I would argue that true prosperity is something much deeper that comes from genuine contentment and peace in your soul. It’s the ability to enjoy life.
The best news is that God wants us to prosper, and He even shows us how! Consider these words: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8, NKJV). God gave these instructions to Joshua hundreds of years ago, but they still prove true for us today.
I find it interesting that according to this scripture, you can “make” your way prosperous. That means your prosperity is not dictated by the cards dealt to you; it’s dictated by YOU. Yes, we make our way prosperous by speaking and meditating on God’s Word, and of course, following what the Bible instructs.
I know this key is true from personal experience. When I truly receive a revelation from God’s Word, I get an extra bounce in my step. I look at things with a different perspective. I can take challenges in a whole different way. It doesn’t really matter what happens to me on the outside when I have God’s word resonating on the inside!
I remember one example from many years ago when I was in high school. One morning, I read this scripture: “Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58). That part about being “immovable” really stood out to me. I felt like God was telling me to not get upset or distracted by circumstances but to stay focused on the work God had called me to do. As one translation of that verse says, “Let nothing move you” (NIV).
Well, that mentality was put to the test that same day! I was working on a big project for one of my classes, and things kept going wrong. Our group made mistakes, we were fighting technology glitches, and it was “one of those days.” But deep on the inside, I still had that truth resonating in my heart: “Let nothing move you!”
So, I didn’t let it move me. Even though I knew myself well enough to know I would normally get frustrated by those challenges, I determined that on that day, I was going to obey God’s word and not let the circumstances get to me. Instead of getting all stressed out, I stayed calm, dealt with the issues that needed to be dealt with, and stayed happy. Thanks to God’s Word, instead of letting the challenges rattle me, I stayed steadfast and immovable.
What could easily have been a day of frustration turned into a day of prosperity. No, I didn’t make $1,000 that day or win a big award. I was prospering in a much deeper way. My success was that I was able to keep my spirit in line with God’s Spirit, and it happened through the power of His Word.
God wants all our days to be prosperous, so make a decision to prosper today! Feed on God’s Word! Let His truth resonate in you! “For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8).
