When we study the miracles that followed Jesus and His apostles, we see that God is not limited to human time frames. One example comes in Luke chapter 13 with the account of Jesus healing a woman with a bent back. Prior to her healing, the woman had been afflicted for 18 years. That’s a long time! No doubt, people had grown accustomed to seeing the woman bent over, and they probably even identified her with that condition. Yet, Jesus had higher thoughts for the woman! When He saw her, He did not merely accept her infirmity like others had. Instead, He envisioned how much better she could and should be living.
Jesus spoke truth that the woman may not have heard before, identifying her disabled condition as the work of Satan, not of God. Jesus proclaimed with authority, “Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound – think of it – for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond?” (Luke 13:16, NKJV). It made no difference to Him that the woman had been sick for so long – only that eighteen years was far too long to live in such bondage!
Jesus thinks the same way about you. Do you have a sickness, pain, disability, or addiction that has plagued you for years? Perhaps you’ve accepted the condition as something you’ve “learned to live with.” Maybe you initially sought God for healing or deliverance, but you’ve since given up hope. You may have even come to believe that your troubled condition is just the way God meant you to be. If that is you, I have good news for you: it’s not too late for God to heal you! Just like He felt toward the woman with the bent back, Jesus thinks you ought to be loosed from Satan’s bondage.
There are other examples in the Bible of people who were healed after many years of affliction. Mark chapter 5 tells how Jesus healed a woman who had an issue of blood for 12 years. John chapter 5 tells of a man at the pool of Bethesda who was healed after 38 years of sickness. John chapter 9 describes how Jesus healed a man who had been blind from birth. Acts chapter 3 tells how Peter and John brought God’s healing to a beggar who had been lame from birth.
These instances prove that God’s healing power is not diminished by the amount of time a person carries a disease. So, if you have a burden, no matter how long you’ve carried it, received God’s healing today. Remember, it’s never too late with God!
